Starting School Online
Registration/Enrollment
Enroll Your Child Inscriba A Su Hijo
All online forms must be completed before they are submitted. Consult our boundary maps to learn which school your child will attend and provide that information on the online form.
Once the online forms are submitted, we will contact you to set up a time to visit the school and provide the following records to complete your child's enrollment:
NOTE: Families seeking to enroll their child at the Early Learning Center, Three Rivers HomeLink or River's Edge High School must contact the school to begin the enrollment process.

Age- and name-verifying documents (i.e. birth certificate; previously verified school records or any other government documents; a religious, hospital, or physician's certificate showing date of birth; an adoption record, etc.)

Families who lack Internet access at home may contact their child’s boundary school for assistance in completing the online enrollment process.

Fall Virtual Welcome Opportunities
Schools will have a variety of virtual opportunities for families to connect with staff this fall in lieu of open houses. This includes opportunities such as virtual tours, technology information and orientation at each school to welcome new students to the Richland School District as well as students changing schools for kindergarten and Grade 6 & 9. Schools will communicate details about these virtual events to families.
Elementary schools will schedule time over the course of the first week of school for teachers to meet individually with families in “Family Connection Meetings” via Zoom or phone call. The purpose of the meeting is for families to have the opportunity to share the strengths, interests, and concerns with their child’s teacher. This will also be an opportunity to identify families who need support with the Internet or an alternate learning plan.
Learning Platforms, Student Technology & Technical Assistance
The following online platforms will be used this year to connect students and families with teachers and instruction.
- Google Classroom (PK-5)/Canvas [6-12 & at Richland Virtual School (RVS) K-12] - Distribution and Communication*
- Google Suite - Basic creation and storage
- Zoom - Synchronous Learning
- Screencastify & Studio - Asynchronous Learning
District staff have developed training tutorials on these platforms for students and parents so they can use them successfully and focus on learning.
* Leona Libby Middle School will continue to use the Summit Learning platform in Grade 6 and Summit and Canvas in Grades 7 & 8.
Our community’s support of our 1:1 Technology Initiative ensures every student will have their own digital device to connect with their teachers and classmates each day while schools are in an online learning format.

Chromebook Distribution & Registration
Schools will schedule Chromebook distribution opportunities for new students and those who turned them in at the end of the 2019-20 school year in the coming weeks. Students who held on to their devices over the summer but are changing schools or will not be attending RSD schools this year need to contact their most recent school and schedule a time to return their device. Families will need to complete registration for the device online, which also includes the opportunity to purchase a protection plan for $20 per student device for the entire school year.
Online Learning Training For Families
District staff are developing video tutorials to help families navigate and use our Core 4 learning platforms so they can assist their students, monitor their progress and stay in touch with teachers. Those tutorials will be available before the first day of school.
Technical Support
IT staff are prepared to assist our students and families so students are able to learn online each school day. Students and parents/guardians may reach out to IT staff regarding problems with district-issued technology at ChromebookHelp@rsd.edu or by calling 509) 967-6162, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

PowerSchool is the district’s tool for families to check attendance records, grades, meal account balances and more.

Supply Lists
Your child’s elementary or middle school will provide most classroom supplies for the 2020-21 school year. Schools will communicate with families how they can pick up those supplies as well as any district-issued technology, to be used at home.

Child Care
The district understands the challenge families face when it comes to supervision of children while schools are in a full-time or part-time distance learning format.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Benton & Franklin Counties will continue to provide child care in their facilities located next to RSD elementary schools. District staff are working with the Club on expanding capacity while continuing to follow public health requirements.
Other options:
- Child Care Aware of Washington is available to assist families in identifying childcare options in the community.
- Families may consider less formal options, such as teaming up with one or two other families they know to share childcare needs and provide their children with socialization opportunities.
School Meals (UPDATED)
Richland schools offers a weekly pick-up for FREE meals on Fridays for any child up to the age of 18.
The cost of the free meals will be covered by funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. No student ID or enrollment verification will be required and families may claim meals without their children present.
Families are encouraged to fill out and submit an application for Free & Reduced Price Meals to assist the district in future planning for student meal
Weekly meal packets will include a breakfast and lunch for each day in a week. If no school is scheduled on a Friday, pick-up will be available on the last day of school in that week.

How To Pay For Student Meals
- Debit/Credit card
Go to MyMealtime.com. Create your account, then add your student(s) to the account by their first name and student ID. You can also download the free MyMealtime app. There is a minimum payment of $25.00 and a roughly 5% service fee.
- Check or cash
Bring a check or cash to the meal pick up. If paying by check, make sure your student’s name is written on the check. If paying with cash, place it in an envelope with your student’s name written on the outside. No change will be provided.

Immunizations
UPDATE 8/25/20: State health officials are easing immunization deadlines for K-12 students who are starting the school year online. Students will need to be up-to-date on their immunizations once they return to in-person learning, including small group learning or extracurricular activities, or provide documentation of a valid exemption from a healthcare provider. The Washington Department of Health requires all students attending school to be in compliance with state immunization requirements whether school is in an online or in-person format.
Current Immunization Requirements
Changes to immunization requirements for the 2020-21 school year include:
- The discontinuation of the personal philosophical exemption for the MMR immunization (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- The requirement of medically verified immunization records for school and child care entry.
- Clarification of conditional status in regards to school and child care immunization requirements and implementation.
- Change of the Tdap immunization requirement to seventh through 12th grades.

COVID-19 Public Health Requirements
Ensuring schools are safe for all students and staff is RSD’s top priority. Once school buildings reopen to in-person instruction, all those visiting schools must follow public health requirements implemented in response to the COVID-19 pandemic to limit the spread of the novel coronavirus.
- Recording of daily health assessment data before arriving at school. This will include a temperature check and answering questions via an online portal. Any student who does not have a completed assessment filed or provides answers that indicate illness will not be permitted to be in school. The district will release more information about the daily health assessment process before the first day of school.
- Wearing of cloth face masks or plastic face shields.
- Maintain physical distancing from others. In classrooms, students must be six feet apart while seated at desks. Physical distancing is be maintained as best as possible in all other spaces and instances (hallways, bus loop, etc.),
- Regular opportunities for thorough handwashing.
Busing
Bus route information will be updated in mid-August.
All passengers will be required to wear face masks and complete a daily health assessment before riding a school bus as precautions against spreading COVID-19.
In addition, students riding RSD buses will be issued a bus pass that will allow their families to know when they board or exit the bus and monitor their bus. Learn more about the Student Ridership Program and view information about school bus routes, guidelines and rules for riding the school bus.
Middle school and high school students may qualify for a Ben Franklin Transit bus pass provided by the transportation department. Contact the Transportation Department at (509) 967-6150 to learn more.
Student Health Needs At School
If your child requires medication while at school or has a medical condition that requires monitoring by the school, make sure to contact your school's nurse and provide the required documentation for your child's condition.
