Calling all Tapteal Elementary families, staff & alumni! Mark your calendar to be at the ground breaking for the new Tapteal at 10 a.m. on Aug. 7 at 705 N. 62nd Ave. in West Richland.
School, district and community leaders will mark the occasion. The new school, designed by Design West Architects, will be built on top of the old school, which was demolished during the summer.
The new two-story school will be built by Fowler General Construction. It will have more than 65,000-square feet, more than 30 classrooms, a multipurpose space, library, art and music rooms, gym and a new playground. The building is scheduled to open in August 2020.
Tapteal students and staff have moved temporarily to the newly-built elementary on Sunshine Avenue in West Richland for the 2019-20 school year.
The new school is one of several projects paid for by a bond approved by voters in February 2017.
